Ingredients - All recipes for a 60 lbs. dog
  • 5 pounds lean ground beef
  • 2 cups uncooked rice
  • 32 ounces unsalted beef broth (low or no sodium)
  • 2 bags frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, green beans, corn, etc.)
  • 4 ounces liver (in most grocery stores, just need to ask)
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
  1. Cook Beef

Cooking Ground Beef on the Stove:

To cook ground beef on the stove, start by thawing the meat if it's frozen and breaking it apart into smaller chunks if needed. Heat a skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat with 1 Tablespoon olive oil, then add the ground beef.

Use a spatula or wooden spoon to break it apart into smaller pieces as it cooks. Cook the ground beef for about 7-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it's browned and cooked through. If there's excess grease in the pan, carefully tilt it to drain it off.

Once cooked, let it cool before chopping up either by hand or with a food processor. Set aside.

Cooking Ground Beef in the Oven:

To cook ground beef in the oven, preheat the oven to 425°F.

Place the ground beef into a deep baking dish (there may be oils). Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-45 minutes, ensuring the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for thorough cooking.

Once cooked let it cool before chopping up either by hand or with a food processor. Set aside.

  2. Cook Rice

Prepare the rice as directed on the package. Use the unsalted beef broth instead of water. Use a 1:20 ratio (1 cup rice to 2 cups broth). Once it's ready, set it aside and allow it to cool while you complete the next steps.

  3. Brown the Liver

In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the liver and sauté until browned.

Chop up finely or toss in a food processor for 5-10 seconds. Set aside.

  4. Heat Vegatables

Follow the steps on the mixed vegetables and set aside to cool.

  5. Combine and Serve/Store

Combine all of the ingredients into a super large bowl (everything!).

Pour the olive oil on top, and combine for 2-3 minutes with a big wooden spoon.

Note: If you are adding supplements/vitamins, now is the time to add those.

Ensure the meal has cooled enough and serve!

  6. Storage

For a 60 lbs dog I recommend 2 cups per meal, assuming twice a day feedings.

I put two cups into each freezer bag per portion. Once all portioned out, I place three days worth into the refrigerator and the rest in the freezer.

I recommend pulling the food from the freezer AT LEAST 24 hours in advance. If needed, you can microwave, but check for hot spots and add some water to equalize the temperature.
